1. Understand the CLAT Pattern and Exam Focus
Before diving into books and mocks, know what you’re preparing for.
CLAT 2027 Paper Pattern Total Questions: 120
Duration: 2 hours
Marking Scheme: +1 for correct, -0.25 for wrong
Sections: English Language, Current Affairs & General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques
What CLAT Really Tests:
Comprehension and logical thinking. All questions, English or Maths, are passage-based and application based. Your capacity to comprehend information correctly and use reasoning is more important than memory.
2. 13-Month CLAT 2027 Study Plan
This plan breaks your preparation into three realistic phases from foundation to practice, and then mocks.
Phase 1 (Nov 2025 – Feb 2026): Foundational Phase
Read editorial articles from either The Hindu or the Indian Express - daily.
Strengthen English, Legal, and Logic skills.
Pick 10-15 questions from each section and solve them daily.
Keep updating a Current Affairs notebook where you write headlines with brief summaries.
For Quantitative skills, go through Maths topics from Class 6-10.
Target: Hold on to the habit of reading and have a thorough understanding of five sections.

Phase 2 (Mar – Aug 2026): Practice and Strengthening
Study and understand concepts of law especially: Contracts, Criminal, Torts, Constitution.
Comprehension or reasoning passages should be done 2-3 times per day almost regularly.
Take one mock test every 10 days followed by a quick review together.
Keep your general knowledge updated on a monthly basis. National policies, bills, legal news, and judgments should follow.
Speed of solving the question should also be worked on by the person. 1-1.5 minutes per question should be the target.
Target: Focus should be kept on the accuracy and logical soundness and also the consistency in the performance of the mock tests.
Phase 3 (Sep – Dec 2026): Mock & Revision
In a week, you should be able to carry out 1-2 full mocks.
After every mock, you should look over the mistakes and try to find the cause or errors pattering.
Before each mock, revise all my topics in the areas of law, logic, and GK.
Work on consolidating the last 5 years of CLAT papers.
Stay away from attempting any new topics in the final 3 weeks. Just follow the practice schedule, relax, and trust the process.
Target: Build up within oneself the right exam attitude and ultimately confidence.
3. Section-Wise Preparation Strategy
A. English Language
Read 2 editorials daily and note down tone, inference, and arguments.
Practice Reading Comprehensions from previous CLATs.
Learn 10 new words daily from "Word Power Made Easy."
Focus on context understanding instead of memorizing.
B. Current Affairs & General Knowledge
Read daily news instead of studying monthly PDFs.
Cover key areas: national policies, bills, awards, international news, and judgments.
Study weekly and monthly to ensure better retention.
Utilize the FLAMES GK SureShot for specific practice.
-C. Legal Reasoning
Learn the principles and apply them rationally to the given facts.
Focus on Contracts, Criminal, Torts, and Constitution.

E. Quantitative Techniques
Practice concepts like ratios, averages, percentages, time and work.
Practice 2–3 DI sets a week.
Focus on accuracy rather than speed.
Update all formulas fortnightly on a one-page sheet.
4. Frequently Made Mistakes to Be Avoided
Delaying mock tests until the end.Not paying any attention to Quant or GK.
Recalling facts instead of actually knowing them.
Frequently changing sources.
Studying hours at a go but not regularly.
5. Revision Strategy
Effective revision methods will assess your knowledge and provide continuing sharpness in your preparation. We recommend that you REVISE your principles in Legal, question types in Logic, Quant formulas weekly and Current affairs as it’s just as important to verify yourself. One of the things you can do is have a one-page summary of each important concept, so that the night before the mock or exam, you could capture it mentally in a one page of summarised notes. Have a Mock Tracker which records your mock score, section scores, time taken, and accuracy. Review this along with the loaner notes every 15 days to capture your weakest. Maybe it is RCs, maybe it's Legal application, maybe it's a Data Interpretation..reattempt. Consistency with some balanced revision of all subjects will lead to long term retention and confidence with time.
