Current Affairs for CLAT 2026: How to prepare and revise like a topper?
The current affairs and GK section plays a major role in law entrance examinations like CLAT, AILET, SLAT, etc. There is a vast sea of topics to cover. It causes a lot of confusion when it comes to what topic is important, what are the good sources to cover, and how to remember heaps of data. Many students resort to structured guidance by coaching institutions like Flames CLAT for resolving such preparation-related issues. This blog, thus, aims to offer preparation strategies and tips to ace the current affairs section in CLAT.
Current Affairs Syllabus for CLAT
The official website of CLAT broadly shows the following themes for the examination:
- Contemporary events of significance from India and the world;
- Arts and culture;
- International affairs; and
- Historical events of continuing significance.
However, there is no fixed syllabus to cover for it, which makes it extremely crucial to properly strategize the preparation and choose the appropriate sources.
Preparation Strategy
A good strategy is half the battle. And the rest depends on how it is implemented. Here are some tips to leverage your preparation.
- Choose your sources wisely
Select 3 good sources to cover the current affairs and stick to them. Multiple sources will not only increase the work but also create confusion.
- Repeated revision
The more you revise, the better you’ll remember. Revision plays the most important role in your preparation. Plan your revision judiciously. (Some tips are shared further)
- Make your own notes
Making your notes is the most effective way to retain them. Your brain processes more when you write, thus it becomes more likely to be retained. Maintaining short and crisp notes will also help in revision.
- Segregate your notes
While making notes, make sure to compile them either theme-wise like International, National, Sports, Days, etc., or make them month wise.
- Read Newspaper Daily
The newspaper is your biggest source to know the affairs of the world. Read it thoroughly, take out the most important topics, and make detailed notes on it. CLAT not only asks about current topic but the static part of that topic.
- Be Consistent
Lastly, be consistent. Current affairs are too vast to cover in a day or two. Make sure you study regularly. Cover topics daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Analyse your mocks
If you came across a new topic in mock, cover it. If you covered the topic, but that specific fact was new to you, update your notes. If the fact was in your notes, revise the notes.
Sources to Cover
- Newspapers
Newspapers like The Hindu, Indian Express are your primary sources to get updates about the world. Read them regularly and find out the repeated topics. Then cover them in detail.
- Compendiums
Cover the monthly compendiums like CLAT Kautilya of your coaching. Ensure to add those topics you missed in your daily note-making from the compendiums.
- Coaching institute
Attend your classes regularly and make notes in your classes. Cover the GK material provided by your coaching, like GK Sure Shots.
- YouTube
Find good YouTube channels that will keep you updated and make in-depth analysis of the news.
Tips for Revision
- 2-7-21 days method
Revise a topic on 2nd, 7th and 21st day of covering it. Maintain a track the topics you cover and keep ticking after revising them on scheduled days.
- Weekly Revision
Select a day in the week and revise all the topics covered in that week. Instead of re-reading it, try to actively recall the facts.
- Monthly Revision
Revise all topics you cover in the last three days of the month. Divide the most, medium, and least important topics and then revise them according to their importance.
- Mock-wise Revision
Revise last month's GK before attempting mocks.
- Use flashcards
Make flashcards of facts that are difficult to recall. You can use online websites for the same.
- Participate in quizzes
Participate in the current affairs quizzes organised by your coaching.
Conclusion
What works for someone might or might not work for you. In the initial phase of preparation, try to experiment with various strategies and find what works for you. Keep studying and revising the current affairs.
