Know your preparation

Understand your preparation. If you are starting now. Firstly, make sure you do not feel guilty about it. Rather, reassure yourself that with the right strategy, you can still make it to your dream NLU. Start today.

If you have started preparation a few months ago, and are struggling with mock scores. Do not freak out and start studying too much, you’ll end up exhausted and frustrated. Instead, focus on what goes wrong and how. It demands that you introspect your preparation and strategy.

Those who have been preparing for a long time have a basic idea of the strategies for solving, along with notes. Do not stress over small dips in scores and changes in rank. Focus on the bigger picture. Start revision as early as possible and ensure you cover all the major topics. Alongside, analyse your past mocks and make sure to note your mistakes.

What and How to Study Section-Wise?

  1. Reading Comprehension
  • Daily editorial reading (The Hindu / Indian Express).
  • Read Aeon essays, magazines, and short stories to expose yourself to different genres.
  • Focus on Vocabulary-in-context, main idea, tone, and inferences while reading the passage.
  • Practice at least 3–4 RC passages daily/ a sectional test.
  • Make it a point to solve past year papers.
  • Revise the basics of grammar like tenses, modifiers, etc.

  1. GK & Current Affairs
  • Cover backlog if any, along with more emphasis on the last six months.
  • Make your own notes. Not for all topics. But write in-depth notes for the most important topics.
  • Keep revising your notes again and again.
  • Avoid referring to too many sources. Stick to any 3 good sources.

 3.  Legal Reasoning

  • Read principles and facts meticulously. Apply the principle to the facts.
  • Read 1 legal article per day (either in news or static laws)
  • Make sure to go through the basics of the Law of Tort, Contract Law, Criminal Law, and Constitutional Law. It will help in a better understanding of the passage.
  • Practice 30–40 legal reasoning questions/ a sectional daily.
  • Once acquainted with legal language, start reading real case summaries or judgments
  • Go through legal maxims and legal vocabulary.
  • Solve the previous year question papers.

4. Logical Reasoning

  • Summarize the passage after reading it.
  • Recognize arguments, spot fallacies, and assess reasoning by strengthening and weakening it.
  • Read 4–5 articles daily across disciplines (philosophy, sci-tech, politics)
  • Practice 30-40 CR questions/ a sectional daily.
  • Practice LSAT and GMAT-type questions sometimes.
  • Mock Analysis > just solving new questions.

5. Quantitative Techniques

  • Revise 10th standard basics. Topics such as percentages, ratios, averages, profit-loss, etc.
  • Solve 6–8 DI caselets per day by timing yourself to 7-8 minutes per DI.
  • Re-attempt errors from previous mocks.

Mindset and motivation:

CLAT is not an exam where you can study too hard for a week and get through. It requires daily effort. Be consistent with your prep. It might at times become difficult to show up, discipline, and scheduling overweigh motivation.

What matters is not the quantity but the quality of what you study. Make a plan, and stick to it.

Do not hesitate to ask doubts. Ensure that all your doubts get cleared, either by mentors or peers.

Do not compare yourself to others. Everyone’s journey is different, and so are their difficulties.

Know your strengths and weaknesses. Polish these strengths and work on improving weaknesses.

Some General Tips

  • Start solving 2-3 mocks per week.
  • Focus more on analysis than quantity.
  • Keep revising your notes.
  • The more you practice the better.
  • Burn-out from too much study is normal, make sure you take frequent breaks and reboot.
  • Stay connected with your mentors.

Conclusion
